This organization endorses the highest standards in practitioner care, public safety and continuing education.

The NCCHSA was formed to proactively advocate for the practice of colon hydrotherapy for all clients using colon hydrotherapy services. The NCCHSA is committed to promoting and raising the educational standards for this practice, and is currently promoting licensure in the state of North Carolina to regulate this therapy. This will insure that those who provide these services are competent, are acting in the best interest of their clients, uphold safety standards for their clients and are maintaining continuing education.

As a collective group of colon hydrotherapists, I invite you to join us in supporting client and practitioner education throughout North Carolina. Coming from Florida, a state that regulates colon therapy through continuing education and upholds standards for safe practice, it is my passion to bring forth these same standards to North Carolina.

Officers of the association are as follows:

Darlene J. Holloway, LMBT, CT, SIT, President
Amy Denman, CTN, MH, Colon Therapist, Vice President
Denise Souza, Colon Therapist, Secretary
Kim Dupre, Colon Therapist, LMBT, Treasurer

Directors of the association are as follows:

Donna Randolph, Colon Therapist
Margarett Szalata, Colon Therapist

I encourage your participation by joining the NCCHSA to support the safe practice of colon hydrotherapy.

In coming together, we stand united.

Sincerely,

Darlene J. It is a procedure that has been especially beneficial to clients with bowel related problems. The procedure is also useful in assessing bowel function in terms of the level of stagnation, hydration and contraction.

Personally, I am fully in favor of making the procedure available to all clients who are interested in having the procedure. I also agree that there should be licensing guidelines to ensure the standards of practice of this procedure.

Your truly,
Sylvester Yong
Original

Cheryl M. As such, I am in support of the continued practice of colon hydrotherapy.

However, it is absolutely imperative that colon hydrotherapy be administered by a trained therapist using FDA approved equipment. I write today to express my endorsement of these efforts, as well as my conviction in the benefits of colon hydrotherapy. Licensure is vitally important for the welfare of the public, and should include conditions stating that colon hydrotherapy be administered by a trained therapist (using FDA-approved equipment), who remains with the client throughout the procedure.

As a physician, I am familiar with the benefits of colon hydrotherapy and am in support of it’s continued practice by trained, licensed colon hydrotherapists. I have observed reversals in chronic constipation and gains in healthy colon function due to the simple, skilled introduction of water to the colon by well-trained therapists, as well as increases in general health from the results from this work.

Sincerely,
Edmund R. Some procures are non invasive, like hair styling or facials. Others are more invasive like applying an enema or Colon Hydrotherapy. The professional applying the enema, performing a haircut or the one performing a facial require a license to do so in the state of North Carolina. The person performing Colon Hydrotherapy should also be required to have a license. The license will ensure that the therapist is a trained professional who uses FDA approved equipment and properly purifed water, who remains with the client throughout the procudure, and who maintains her/his fund of knowledge through continued education.

By this mean I want to express my endorsement of these efforts, of the North Carolina Colon Hydrotherapy Association to obtain licensure for Colon Hydrotherapist in the state of North Carolina.

Sincerely,

Thomas Bresley, MD

Join NCCHSA

There are two ways to join NCCHSA: Allied Membership and Therapist Membership.

Allied Membership

Therapist Membership

Dear Prospective Member:

Please allow me to introduce the North Carolina Colon Hydrotherapy Safety Association. The NCCHSA was formed to proactively advocate for the colon therapy practice and the clients that use our services.

The officers of the association are as follows:

President - Darlene J. Holloway, LMBT, CT, SIT
Vice President - Amy Denman, CTN, MH, Colon Therapist
Secretary - Denise Souza, Colon Therapist
Treasurer - Kim Dupre, Colon Therapist, LMBT

The NCCHSA’s goal is to promote the professional standards of the industry, and to insure that its clients receive treatment in a safe and effective manner. By seeking licensure for the colon hydrotherapists, the Association will insure the competency and educational standards of all therapists in North Carolina. Such standards will also insure the safety and best interests of each client.

The NCCHSA has retained the services of attorney Richard H. Carlton to achieve its legislative goals. Mr. Carlton is a veteran lobbyist who is well qualified to represent us, monitor legislative activity, and promote legislation sponsored by the NCCHSA. He has demonstrated a sincere interest in promoting our profession.

In order to accomplish our licensure goal, the Association needs your assistance and active participation. Our budget for retaining Mr. Carlton through through completion is $15,000. Outstanding dues must be collected and donations received to these expenses. To meet these costs, we ask that all therapists and members who have not paid their dues in full, to consider doing a.s.a.p. If you have paid in full, we ask that you please consider donating an amount monthly that is comfortable for you. Some therapists are currently donating $50 each month over and above their dues which is guaranteed additional funds. Please consider what you might be able to afford.

As shown on the attached membership form, new membership payments can be made in the full amount of $900.00, two payments of $450.00, or four payments of $225.00. It is anticipated that, after we are successful with our legislative efforts, annual dues will go down to $250 per year.

I know you will find licensure and membership in NCCHSA to be beneficial to you. Licensure for our profession is a necessary achievement for our practice and our clients. Please join us in this important endeavor. The North Carolina Colon Hydrotherapy Safety Association (NCCHSA) is closer to its goal of licensure in North Carolina. The Board was diligent and tenacious as members wrote and rewrote the bill for licensing colon hydrotherapy and prepared to present its case during the long session of the North Carolina House of Representatives. The organization is very excited to announce that it has a bill!

With the encouragement and professional guidance of NCCHSA’s attorney, Dick Carlton, the organization created a bill acceptable to all house committees. Through Mr. Carlton’s commitment and skill NCCHSA is primed for victory. Thank you to our members for your support and encouragement throughout the process. It was a long process but one that seemed like a whirlwind in retrospect. The bill was first presented to the Licensing Committee, which voted in favor of our request to seek licensure. Next was the Health Committee, whose members had many questions. Our president, Darlene Holloway, did a fabulous job answering all their questions and concerns. NCCHSA lost some momentum and timeliness at this juncture due to some educational and safety concerns which were addressed. The Bill was amended to meet all desired requirements and we waited to be put back on the calendar.

Unfortunately, the session ended before members had the opportunity to represent to the Health Committee. Since the amended bill was not able to be presented to the Health Committee the second time, the bill listed on the North Carolina site is not the new bill. The short session begins in May 2010 and we are ready to move forward expediently and successfully. We are confident the bill will pass in the Health Committee, as we have already addressed all concerns. With that favorable vote, the bill would then proceed to the Finance Committee and then need the formal floor vote of the House. After the formality of the floor vote, the bill then moves to seek favorable votes in Senate committees and onto a Senate floor vote. The final step is a victory celebration! As you can see, the road seems long but may be quick. The only hurdle that can slow us down is our organization’s finances.

NCCHSA members are united and ready to move forward but need to stay committed to the task of funding our endeavor. Please visit our ‘Join’ page to find out more about our needs and how you can be a part of this great move forward for the state of North Carolina by joining NCCHSA as a therapist or a friend.

Finally, the Board applauds our tenacious president, Darlene Holloway. Darlene received the award for Therapist of the Year 2009. This award was presented by I-ACT at the I-ACT convention held in Indianapolis. Congratulations Darlene!

Sincerely,
Denise Souza
Secretary, NCCHSA

About Us

The North Carolina Colon Hydrotherapy Association (NCCHSA) was formed in 2007 by a group of committed therapists, endeavoring to solidify the professional standard of colon hydrotherapy and ensure the safety of all clients. The goal of the NCCHSA is to promote the professional standard of the industry and ensure clients receive services in a safe and effective manner.

The Association is currently seeking licensure to regulate this therapy for the purposes of offering continuing education for trained therapists, proper use of FDA equipment, regulating training of colon hydrotherapists, and assuring consumers the right to seek colon hydrotherapy by a trained therapist. Colon hydrotherapy is a nationally growing health and wellness therapy; licensure will protect this modality of alternative health care and provide structure and direction as the profession grows while ensuring consumers receive safe, beneficial therapy.

Our Code of Ethics

The health, welfare, and comfort of our clients are our primary concern. We will treat our clients as we would treat ourselves. We will obtain comprehensive education in colon hydrotherapy and will assist schools in maintaining the highest standard of education for this purpose. We recognize the ever-changing nature of, approach to, and attitude towards health care. We will continue our education accordingly thereby keeping abreast of all new developments and advancements in this field. We will share our knowledge and awareness with others in the colon hydrotherapy profession. We recognize the necessity of maintaining a professional relationship with healthcare practitioners in other fields and of keeping pace with the latest developments in health care. We will work as a colon hydrotherapist as our education and training allows and demands and we will not infringe upon other professions we are not qualified to practice. We honor this profession and promise to uphold these tenants.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 181px; height: 200px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_beMJRtjkSfw/SeSU-0cYU-I/AAAAAAAAHRk/mxcCgLBx55E/s200/darlene_holloway_thumb.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5324544466409247714" />Darlene Holloway, LMBT, CT, SIT, is the president of the North Carolina Colon Hydrotherapy Safety Association, and the owner of the Alternative Health Center of Cary.
