Great news! The North Carolina Colon Hydrotherapy Safety Association (NCCHSA) is closer to its goal of licensure in North Carolina. The Board was diligent and tenacious as members wrote and rewrote the bill for licensing colon hydrotherapy and prepared to present its case during the long session of the North Carolina House of Representatives. The organization is very excited to announce that it has a bill!

With the encouragement and professional guidance of NCCHSA’s attorney, Dick Carlton, the organization created a bill acceptable to all house committees. Through Mr. Carlton’s commitment and skill NCCHSA is primed for victory. Thank you to our members for your support and encouragement throughout the process. It was a long process but one that seemed like a whirlwind in retrospect. The bill was first presented to the Licensing Committee, which voted in favor of our request to seek licensure. Next was the Health Committee, whose members had many questions. Our president, Darlene Holloway, did a fabulous job answering all their questions and concerns. NCCHSA lost some momentum and timeliness at this juncture due to some educational and safety concerns which were addressed. The Bill was amended to meet all desired requirements and we waited to be put back on the calendar.

Unfortunately, the session ended before members had the opportunity to represent to the Health Committee. Since the amended bill was not able to be presented to the Health Committee the second time, the bill listed on the North Carolina site is not the new bill. The short session begins in May 2010 and we are ready to move forward expediently and successfully. We are confident the bill will pass in the Health Committee, as we have already addressed all concerns. With that favorable vote, the bill would then proceed to the Finance Committee and then need the formal floor vote of the House. After the formality of the floor vote, the bill then moves to seek favorable votes in Senate committees and onto a Senate floor vote. The final step is a victory celebration! As you can see, the road seems long but may be quick. The only hurdle that can slow us down is our organization’s finances.

NCCHSA members are united and ready to move forward but need to stay committed to the task of funding our endeavor. Please visit our ‘Join’ page to find out more about our needs and how you can be a part of this great move forward for the state of North Carolina by joining NCCHSA as a therapist or a friend.

Finally, the Board applauds our tenacious president, Darlene Holloway. Darlene received the award for Therapist of the Year 2009. This award was presented by I-ACT at the I-ACT convention held in Indianapolis. Congratulations Darlene!

Sincerely,
Denise Souza
Secretary, NCCHSA
